Description:
Peter Russell explores the reasons why consciousness may be the fundamental essence of the Universe. Many have made such claims from metaphysical perspectives, but the possibility has always been ignored by the scientific community. In this talk, he discusses the problems the materialist scientific worldview has with consciousness and proposes an alternative worldview which, rather than contradicting science, makes new sense of much of modern physics. |

lovasip ::: Favorites But we are conscious of consciousness itself? Why? 07-07-13 04:02:11 _____________________________________________________
nontheistdavid ::: Favorites Consciousness is all the way down through to the atom? He just presumes this! He keeps repeating "consciencness is in everything". HUGE presumption! I agree this is psychobabble. Life does not exist in space time and matter? WTF. This guy assumes most of what he is saying. pfffft. 07-07-13 16:17:14 _____________________________________________________
gazzmatronix ::: Favorites "How is this different than Deepak Chopra's psychobabble?" Like Chopra (and myself, once) Peter Russell has been involved with the Transcendental Meditation cult, who love taking scientific ideas and speculating about mystical and metaphysical meanings in them. This sort of stuff prepares the way for TM's other claims of using the mind's 'hidden miraculous energies' to levitate and become invisible by meditating on some kinda 'quantum consciousness' malarkey. 07-07-14 17:36:28 _____________________________________________________

ImBrainwashed ::: Favorites Nonsense, you need a pure milled energy to have no effect on space time. No run of the mill, plane and simple, energy like light light is going to get that job done. To much grit you see. 07-07-24 18:52:50 _____________________________________________________
RationalResponseBots ::: Favorites Interesting that they go to such great lengths to explain something there is no evidence for in the first place. The belief in consciousness is truly hard-wired. 07-08-05 16:23:10 _____________________________________________________
Dengar12000 ::: Favorites Whatever happened to: "I think, therefore I am". 07-08-05 22:51:54 _____________________________________________________
wakeangel2001 ::: Favorites consciousness is an emergent property of the brain's constant activity. If the brain were to stop working, the consciousness would be destroyed, and its possible we many someday create a computer with its own consciousness. I don't think its part of universal law. 07-08-09 12:39:53 _____________________________________________________
ChurchOfAtheism ::: Favorites Care to describe how or why it 'emerges'? 07-08-09 15:47:03 _____________________________________________________
wakeangel2001 ::: Favorites I'm not sure how exactly, but I saw on an episode of NOVA a scientist mentioned that consciousness is a result of how the brain is arranged, every neuron in a human brain is in contact with 10,000 others, in a computer any given circuit is connected to at most 10 others. The huge increase in processing power this connectivity gives allows the consciousness to emerge. 07-08-10 00:28:54 _____________________________________________________ |
