This angle shows how the IR aiming beam can be seen as it gets bounced off of the target cans. Too bad the NXT does not have a good general purpose sensor interface, you can only use what Lego provides (unless you hack into the cables to add some standard Sharp IR sensors like I did here). I suppose that a broader capture arm would work with u-sonic as long as everything were perfectly aligned, but I wanted a real world solution where things have to found not just stumbled over.
