Description: Katrina Moore and Lucy Warburton, who work in the Speech and Language Department at National Star College have decided to rely on communication technology for a week in a bid to raise £2,500 for the Star Appeal. During the week they will only use communication aids, similar to those that are used by some students at National Star College, to do all their talking. The idea came about when Lucy had a conversation with someone at Communication Matters, a conference for people who use, work with or manufacture communication aids. Lucy said "It all started because of a bet that I wouldn't be able to use a communicator for a day". Lucy being the competitive sort, rose to the challenge, and upped the stakes by increasing the challenge and attempting to raise £2,500 for the Star Appeal. As well as raising money for the Star Appeal, the pair hopes to raise awareness concerning the difficulties faced when using communication aids and to gain an in-depth understanding of what it is like to rely on a communication aid, like the students that they work with at National Star College. http://www.justgiving.com/aac-starappeal http://www.natstar.ac.uk/Fundraising_News_109.asp?Item=248 |
