IX = 9 + X = 10 + L = 50 + I = 1 + (IM = 999 but that's not the usual way to write it + ) M = 1000 + L = 50 + I = 1 Reïnforced with your 89: 1121 + 89 = 1210 or 2120 + 89 = 2209 ...
